About Lights & Suds

Welcome to Lights & Suds — small-batch candles and handmade soaps, hand-poured in Manvel, Texas.

Our Story

Lights & Suds is the passion project of a woman who refuses to be defined by her limitations.

I live with ataxia — a neurological condition that affects coordination and mobility — but I've never let it slow me down. Between raising three amazing kids with my husband (one a finance major working in Virginia, one studying to become an electrical engineer, and one on the way to becoming a nurse), and a long career in the medical field — much of it spent running and certifying laboratories — life has never given me much time to sit still.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I fell in love with making candles.

What started as something I made for myself turned into gifts for friends, then orders from family, and eventually a community of customers who keep coming back. There's a moment I look forward to every time someone opens one of my candles for the first time — the lid comes off, the natural oils hit, and you can watch their whole face change. They light up. And honestly, so do I.

That moment is the whole reason Lights & Suds exists. I make candles and soaps that make people happy — hand-poured in small batches, with the same attention to detail I've spent my career bringing to the lab.

What We Make

We focus on two things, and we've worked hard to do both well.

Hand-poured soy candles. Every candle is poured in small batches using pure, renewable soy wax that burns cleanly and evenly. We pair our wax with carefully selected fragrance oils chosen for their purity, balance, and lasting throw. Our scent collection ranges from cozy seasonal favorites like Cinnamon Ember and Apple Crisp to elegant year-round signatures like Whispering Sandalwood and Heirloom Lavender — with new fragrances added throughout the year.

Handmade soaps. Crafted with the same attention to ingredients and finish that goes into our candles, our soap line is in development and rolling out scent by scent. Follow us on Facebook for first access as new bars are released.

How We Make It

Everything we sell is hand-poured, small-batch, and made by us — not outsourced, not white-labeled, not mass-produced. That means every batch is personal. We test fragrance throws, inspect each pour for consistency, and reject anything that doesn't meet our standards before it leaves the workshop.

What we use:

  • Pure soy wax — renewable, clean-burning, free from paraffin
  • Premium fragrance oils — chosen for purity and lasting scent without harsh additives
  • Quality wicks and vessels — selected for an even burn and a finish you'll want to keep on the shelf

What we don't use:

  • Cheap paraffin fillers
  • Synthetic dyes that smoke or stain
  • Generic fragrance blends repackaged as "premium"

Every candle carries our name. We want to be proud of it.

Where We Are

Lights & Suds is based in Manvel, Texas — a small city in Brazoria County, just south of Houston. Every candle and every bar of soap we ship is poured, cured, and packaged here. Texas roots, Texas hands, Texas-made.

Our Commitments

A few things we promise the people who shop with us:

  • Honest products. What we say is in the candle is what's in the candle. No misleading labels, no inflated marketing claims, no "luxury" upcharges on the same wax everyone else uses.
  • Honest pricing. No fake countdown timers. No artificial scarcity. No hidden fees at checkout. The price you see is the price you pay.
  • Real customer service. When you email us, a real person reads it. When something goes wrong, we make it right.
  • Made to last. Our candles are sealed for shipping and built to deliver a clean, even burn from first light to last.
